Abraxas' transition program (special education) is taking an approach to better the environment through recycling. Our transition students are working on not only recycling the basics but they're also working on teaching our other students about the benefits of recycling.

Who are the "Garbage Police"?

The Garbage Police are a group of students from our Leadership class and Leadership club, along with the transition students, that are going to set up 3 trashcans in our lunch area everyday for two weeks. They are going to have one trash can for compost, one for recycling plastic, cardboard, aluminum and another for any other trash that can not be recycled. Our leadership and transition students will stand by the trash cans during lunch to teach our other students which trash can to put certain trash in.

How does composting work?

OUR STUDENTS HAVE SET UP COMPOST BINS IN THE GARDEN THAT HAVE ALREADY GATHERED OVER 10 FEET OF COMPOST. OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS SAVE VEGETABLE PEELS, FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, EGG SHELLS AND COFFEE grounds THAT WILL TURN INTO A RICH SOIL THAT WILL BE PERFECT TO GROW DELICIOUS FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN.
